Release Notes

v0.13.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ Growth items now scale their improvements based off of a character’s stats instead of just a base value of 1.
  • Accessibility Improvements:
    ◦ When an enemy is damaged in battle, their name now changes color to indicate how close to defeat they are.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ Sometimes music would fail to resume playback, but that’s no longer the case.

v0.12.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ New characters are now randomized when starting a new game so that I can show off my artist’s work.
    ◦ The game now plays music when you’re exploring a map or in the middle of a fight against some nasty creatures.
    ◦ You can now skip your turn in battle if you need to. Try fighting Dagger again to see why you might need to.
    ◦ Handy Shrapnel Grenades have been added to the Provisioner at your base, allowing you to deal heavy damage to enemies using an item instead of your bare hands.
  • Accessibility Improvements:
    ◦ Sound effects have been added across the board, accentuating most things you and click on or do.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ Previously, if you leveled up while dead, you would magically come back to life with a few HP. This is no longer the case, you zombies.

v0.11.0

  • Accessibility Improvements:
    ◦ The assets used for character creation are now beautiful instead of ugly as hell.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ A rare issue where the player’s chosen portrait could be messed up has been fixed.

v0.10.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ Now sometimes when you’re exploring the various different scenarios, you might end up springing a trap that has a chance of damaging your party. Be careful out there!

v0.9.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ After collecting those three Emergency Batteries for Marcus, his repairs to the Terraforming Machine in the center of First Landing actually do something now. You should probably look into that, since that’s kinda what you were sent here to do. And if you’re really paying attention, you might even see those changes reflected in a subtle way…
  • Accessibility Improvements:
    ◦ That image I stole for the launch screen is now no longer stolen. I still didn’t pay for it, but hey, it’s no longer stolen.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ Since some of you complained that waiting over 5000 hours to add a merchant to your base was “too long”, the durations for Settlement Expansions now initialize correctly. Boo hoo. Babies.
    ◦ Evidently Microsoft doesn’t want to fix the problem I told them about, so I replaced System.Tuples with my own implementation that doesn’t break release builds. If that isn’t true, please let me know so I can stop bragging about how awesome I am.

v0.8.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ Mutagens have been completely reworked. Instead of working like the materia system from Final Fantasy 7, they now work like the ability system from Final Fantasy 9. How original!
    ◦ You can now expand your settlements by talking to the goober in the hard hat when available. Now you can spend those hard-earned materials on something of substance!
    ◦ You can now look at all of your collected equipment from the Inventory menu.
    ◦ Attached rewards received by reading your mail are now displayed in the body of the letter, instead of just in that janky dialog box that pops up after reading.
    ◦ Found rewards received by exploring scenarios are now displayed in the body of the scenario description instead of just in that janky dialog box that pops up after loading.
  • Accessibility Improvements:
    ◦ Battle animations are a lot smoother now, but you probably won’t notice.
    ◦ The MP bar for Party Members is not easier to see when you’re doing battle.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ Fixed a gnarly crash that would occur whenever you killed an opponent in battle. I guess no one is playing.
    ◦ MP and O2 gained or lost in battle now animate correctly.

v0.7.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ You can actually die now should you do a pitiful job fighting your enemies. Death isn’t permanent however, and will wear off after 2 hours. One shouldn’t expect their stats to recover over time while dead though, so be sure and use a Defibrillator on any dead allies to get them back into the fray quickly.
    ◦ The map should now be 143% less stupid. I removed all tabs and just made it work like one would assume it should.
    ◦ Speaking of map updates, you should also see little icons of interest atop any locations that have an associated entry in your quest log. This should help those of you who positively refuse to read.
  • Accessibility Improvements:
    ◦ Buttons on the map now use icons instead of dumb squished text.
    ◦ Map items now react more accurately to where you touched them, fixing a myriad of issues under the covers that you won’t notice at all.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ A bug that was introduced in a previous update where Scenarios with multiple choices weren’t working correctly is now fixed.
    ◦ Also creating a new game doesn’t crash anymore. You’d think at this point I’d know how to avoid introducing bugs to a codebase I wrote the entirety of, but you’d be wrong.

v0.6.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ Added a Counter-attack shrewd mutagen that totally works but that you cannot currently find.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ Fixed a crash within the crafting dialog when talking to Hammer.
    ◦ Fixed a crash that could occur when some of you were button-mashing when using Provisions.
    ◦ The game now continues successfully if you die in battle instead of just crashing immediately.

v0.5.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ All party members now have preferred equipment types. This further differentiates between them, and should make organizing your party easier and more enjoyable. Some characters also dual wield weapons, which means they get two attacks per battle instead of just one.
    ◦ Battle outcomes and descriptions now use a new fancy-shmancy text popup instead of the generic, ugly Android toast system that is system-wide.
    ◦ All inventory items are now sorted based off of their type. It is no longer possible to manually sort them yourself, not that anyone actually ever did that anyway.
    ◦ You can now read the release notes from the launch menu, instead of not being able to read them at all. By default, the first time you open the game after installing an update, you get them in your face, but otherwise you need to manually open them yourself.
  • Accessibility Improvements:
    ◦ All dialogs and popups are now rebuilt, ensuring that they work correctly 100% of the time, and actually look like they belong to the game you’re playing.
    ◦ Any choices in battle that cannot be used will now be disabled. This affects special actions, as well as expandable lists with nothing in them.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ Mutations now correctly initialize their power, so they should be even more useful instead of just starting out at 0.
    ◦ Fixed an issue where loading the game from scratch took about 3x as much time as it probably needed to.
    ◦ The game now correctly shuts down when you choose to exit from the launch menu, instead of continuing to run, stealing all of your data.

v0.4.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ Weapons can now have elemental properties, armors can now grant elemental resistances, and enemies now have elemental strengths and weaknesses that you can exploit.
    ◦ Enemies can now attack with actual Mutations instead of just physical attacks that look like Mutations. This will become important in a second, keep reading.
    ◦ When allies and enemies fall in battle, the game now tells you what killed them, in gory detail.
    ◦ All party members now have a unique ability that only they can do to differentiate them from one another. Some of them can now steal items from their opponents, and others can learn enemy Mutations by copying them! How neato.
    ◦ Whenever you do something you were told to do for a quest, you now get a notification, because some of you just don’t know how to read.
  • Accessibility Improvements:
    ◦ Made a few more buttons bigger so you can correctly tap them with your fat fingers.
    ◦ The First Landing map button is now actually halfway clickable, whereas before, it was at best only one eighth-way clickable.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ Fixed an issue where a party member’s default equipment didn’t have their bonuses correctly applied.
    ◦ Fixed a typo in Shipwreck Shoals that never should have been there in the first place.

v0.3.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ You can now see a snapshot of a party member’s stats by tapping on their face in the status menu.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ Fixed a crash when attempting to steal a petal in the Smoldering Plains. Steal away.
    ◦ Fixed a crash that could occur when animating battle progress bars.
    ◦ Patched up a problem where the game could immediately crash when loading a saved game. Whoops.

v0.2.1

  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ Actually fixed an issue where dialogue and roleplaying options were being cut off that I thought I fixed before.

v0.2.0

  • Features Added:
    ◦ Crashes are now reported whenever the application is restarted to make it easier to fix my mistakes.
    ◦ You can now use all of that hard-earned Resin to buy survival provisions from a merchant at your Home base.
    ◦ If you don’t have any Resin, you can now sell inventory items to fuel your bad habits.
    ◦ You can now flee from any battle before it starts, but it will still cost the associated O2 since you chickened out.
    ◦ Whenever you find a new material you’ve never seen before, you will unlock the ability to harvest it at your Home base. Just talk to the Gardener or Miner.
    ◦ You can now craft some useful provisions once you unlock the ability to do so.
    ◦ Olivia now starts off with something equipped that should make better use of that high Power stat.
    ◦ Mutagens now need much less AP to level up.
  • Accessibility Improvements:
    ◦ Increased the size of all buttons and touchable surfaces so that they register easier for old people like you.
    ◦ The shrewd Mutagen slot color is now slightly more bearable for the eyes.
    ◦ Map items now look 147% better. Names and associated O2 costs should be visible at all times.
    ◦ Made it clearer what those numbers mean when choosing to keep exploring in an area.
    ◦ Increased the size of the Windtorn Coast map image so it doesn’t look so terrible. It still looks pretty terrible.
  • Bugs Squashed:
    ◦ The text area for dialogue and the button area for roleplaying should now be sized correctly, ensuring you can see all the text and access every roleplaying option.
    ◦ Fixed an issue where the brown hair color option when creating a character was selectable twice. Now you can have red hair instead.
    ◦ Removing equipment from your characters now works correctly.
    ◦ Turn order in battle is now more random instead of just the exact same every single time forever.
    ◦ The player character now has more O2 when starting a new game so you should die less often.
    ◦ You now have to talk to Marcus before you can explore the Shuttle Graveyard because some of you don’t know how to read your quest log.
    ◦ Emergency Batteries are now easier to find.
    ◦ When you find Hammer, his name shows up on the Home map correctly.
